net cash cost = max(0, tuition + fees + exam + books + equipment + travel − grants − employer aid)
income given up = unpaid training weeks × current weekly earnings
total investment = net cash cost + income given up
break-even weeks = total investment ÷ ((pay scenario after training − current hourly pay) × hours per week)
