Start from the regulator and target employers, not the school’s sales page. A viable program should lead to a defined eligibility milestone, provide enough supervised practice to produce evidence, disclose total cost and financing, and support its outcome claims with a clear cohort and method.

Name the destination milestone
Write down what completion must unlock: license eligibility, apprenticeship credit, an FAA testing route, a portfolio, or a specific employer skill. If the provider cannot connect its curriculum to that milestone using an official source, keep looking.
Audit the hands-on component
Ask how many learners share equipment, who supervises practice, what tasks are assessed, and how missed labs are recovered. A tool list or virtual demonstration is not equivalent to repeated performance with feedback.
Reconstruct total cost
Add tuition, mandatory fees, books, tools, consumables, exams, retests, travel, childcare, interest, and earnings lost during unpaid time. Separate refundable from nonrefundable charges and read withdrawal and employer-repayment terms.
Interrogate outcome claims
Request the reporting period, starting cohort, exclusions, response rate, job definition, geography, and independent verifier. A placement percentage without those elements cannot support a personal employment forecast.
